SOR began as a CIO in August 2009, and in 2015 we entered the Multicultural Greek Council to become an official diaternity. A diaternity is a gender-inclusive Greek Life organization.
At UVA, we are the alpha chapter, and we are currently the only chapter of SOR.
We are also the first LGBTQ+, gender-inclusive diaternity to join the Multicultural Greek Council.
Each of our symbols can be seen on our shield below.
Symbols and Meanings:
The Torch is a symbol for Vision.
The Peacock (represented by its feathers) is a symbol for Pride.
The Star is a symbol for Individuality.
The Yellow Rose is a symbol for Family.
SOR Motto:
"Ex igne venit lux."
"Out of fire, comes light."
